The 2003 WYSE team had tremendous success this year.  Team members included Lisa Baer, Craig Bingaman, Michael Butler, Kate Causey, Carrie Deters, Laura Eisenmenger, Dustin Hadden, Megan James, Chase Nappe, Nathan Reifsteck, Ben Smith, Corey Tarter, Dylan VanWynen, and Rachel West.

In February the team placed 1st in Division 700 schools at the Regional competition held at Parkland College and also won several individual medals.  Placing 1st, 2nd, and 3rd respectively in Mathematics were Michael Butler, Ben Smith, and Dustin Hadden.  Placing 1st and 2nd in Chemistry were Laura Eisenmenger and Nathan Reifsteck.  Placing 1st, 2nd, and 3rd in English were Carrie Deters, Lisa Baer, and Kate Causey.  Placing 2nd in Physics was Ben Smith.  Placing 2nd and 3rd in Biology were Michael Butler and Kate Causey.  Placing 3rd in Engineering Graphics was Corey Tarter.  Placing 1st and 3rd in Computer Science were Lisa Baer and Carrie Deters.  Placing 1st and tying for 2nd in Technology and Society were Corey Tarter, and Chase Nappe and Megan James.

In March the team placed 2nd at the Sectional competition held at Eastern Illinois University.  The teams 2nd place finish qualified the entire team for State competition.  Dustin Hadden was the sole individual medal winner, taking 2nd in Mathematics.  All team members had solid scores in their testing area allowing the team to place 2nd in Division 700 Schools..

In April, the team headed to the U of I for the State competition.  There the team faced tough competition and placed 18th in the State in Division 700 schools.  Individually, Ben Smith placed 6th in Physics.

All team members should be proud of their accomplishments.  While WYSE is a competition that allows for individual advancement, it takes an entire team and all of their scores to advance the team to the State level.  The accomplishments of the WYSE Academic Challenge team reflect well upon the students, parents, faculty, school, and communities of this district.

            Congratulations on an excellent season!
