The 2003 WYSE team had tremendous success this year. Team members included Lisa Baer, Craig Bingaman, Michael Butler, Kate Causey, Carrie Deters, Laura Eisenmenger, Dustin Hadden, Megan James, Chase Nappe, Nathan Reifsteck, Ben Smith, Corey Tarter, Dylan VanWynen, and Rachel West.

In February the team placed 1^st in Division 700 schools at the Regional competition held at Parkland College and also won several individual medals. Placing 1^st, 2^nd, and 3^rd respectively in Mathematics were Michael Butler, Ben Smith, and Dustin Hadden. Placing 1^st and 2^nd in Chemistry were Laura Eisenmenger and Nathan Reifsteck. Placing 1^st, 2^nd, and 3^rd in English were Carrie Deters, Lisa Baer, and Kate Causey. Placing 2^nd in Physics was Ben Smith. Placing 2^nd and 3^rd in Biology were Michael Butler and Kate Causey. Placing 3^rd in Engineering Graphics was Corey Tarter. Placing 1^st and 3^rd in Computer Science were Lisa Baer and Carrie Deters. Placing 1^st and tying for 2^nd in Technology and Society were Corey Tarter, and Chase Nappe and Megan James.

In March the team placed 2^nd at the Sectional competition held at Eastern Illinois University. The teams 2^nd place finish qualified the entire team for State competition. Dustin Hadden was the sole individual medal winner, taking 2^nd in Mathematics. All team members had solid scores in their testing area allowing the team to place 2^nd in Division 700 Schools..

In April, the team headed to the U of I for the State competition. There the team faced tough competition and placed 18^th in the State in Division 700 schools. Individually, Ben Smith placed 6^th in Physics.

All team members should be proud of their accomplishments. While WYSE is a competition that allows for individual advancement, it takes an entire team and all of their scores to advance the team to the State level. The accomplishments of the WYSE Academic Challenge team reflect well upon the students, parents, faculty, school, and communities of this district.
