Discipline Policy                                       Mrs. Seiler

A sequential four-step procedure will be followed and documented.

1.  Student and Teacher – In the classroom

For any problem that arises (talking during instruction or work time, being off task, disrespectful, etc.), the student and teacher will resolve the problem in the classroom.  This may involve verbal warning, changing seats, denial of privileges, time in the hallway, etc.

2.  Student and Teacher – Out of the classroom – Parent notified

If the problem persists or if the student is noncompliant, then detention time will be assigned.  Detentions will be 50 minutes in length and will be served in Room 8 with me within two days of the assignment.  Parents will be called.

3.  Student, Parent, Teacher – Conference –Assistant Principal notified

If step 2 is ineffective and problems continue, then the student, parent, and teacher will arrange a time to discuss a solution to the situation.  The assistant principal will receive written notification.

4.  Student, Parent, Teacher, Assistant Principal

If the conference does not resolve the problem, then an additional conference with the assistant principal will be held.

I reserve the right to remove any student from the classroom if it is necessary for the safety of others and their learning environment.

Food/Drink Policy – No food or drink is allowed in the classroom.  This includes GUM.  If you bring it in, you will throw it away.

Pass Policy – Each student will be allowed two PASSES per semester.  You must present your UHS planner with pass ages at the time you wish to use a pass.  Passes may not be used when instruction is occurring.  When your two passes are used if an emergency arises, you may use your pass page but will serve a fifteen-minute detention with me.  A new pass will not be allowed for any reason until the detention is served.  Plan to use the bathroom or get a drink between classes.  Please do not expect to use your pass pages.

Substitute Policy – Unacceptable behavior for a substitute will result in a 100 minute detention.  A substitute deserves your best behavior.

Dress Policy – All students should be modestly clothed.  Pants and shirts should meet at the waist at all times, sitting or standing.  Shirts should cover the upper torso well at all times.  If sandals are worn, they should remain on the persons feet at all times.  We are in an educational setting and appropriate dress is expected.

Make-up Work Policy

One-day absences – due to illness

1.  Homework – Must be made up in the same number of days missed.

2.  Quiz – Must be made up in the same number of days missed.

3.  Test – Again, must be made up in the same number of days missed with one exception.  If a student is present for the review day but absent on the test day, then they must take the test the day they return.

Extended Absence - due to illness

If a student is absent for an extended period due to illness, all efforts should be made by the student to obtain the missing assignments and keep up as much as possible.  Special arrangements will be made regarding their make-up work.

Absent - due to school or family function

If a student is absent due to a school or family function then they are responsible for all work missed.  It is the students' responsibility to approach the teacher to obtain the assignment.  The student will be expected to take any scheduled quizzes or tests with the rest of the class.  They will also be responsible for having their regular assignment completed.

                           Cheating Policy

Cheating takes two basic forms.  A person can take information from another without their knowledge or a person can give information to another person.  In the former case, only one person is guilty.  In the latter, both people are guilty.  Knowledge obtained by cheating can be passed verbally (whispering the answer to someone), or physically (showing someone your test, quiz, or homework).

Any student who cheats will receive a zero for that assignment, a 50-minute detention to be served with me, and a phone call to their parents.

Cheating is a serious offense.  Zeros can significantly alter your grade, especially on quizzes or tests.  Cheating damages your reputation with the instructor and your classmates and, more importantly, it damages your faith in your own abilities.

Please be smart.  Avoid being in circumstances that arouse suspicion.  Keep your eyes on your own paper, be certain your work cannot be seen by others, and don't "loan" your work (that you worked very hard to complete) to a classmate.
