Course Expectations                                                            Mrs. Seiler

Physics

Materials:  Loose leaf paper, 3-ring binder (1” to 2”) or folder, bound graph paper notebook (lab book), pencils, pen, scientific calculator. POSITIVE ATTITUDE

Any time materials are given to you for the purpose of physics, you will not use them for any other purpose.  (i.e.  meter sticks are not baseball bats)  You are all mature enough to handle equipment properly.  Privileges will be denied if it is found otherwise.

Grades:  Grades will be taken on homework, lab work, quizzes, projects, and tests.  The majority of your grade will be based on tests, labs, and quizzes.  Homework will be a smaller percentage of your grade but please do not neglect its importance.

1.  Homework

Homework will be assigned on a day-by-day basis.  Assignments will be graded for completeness or correctness, my choice. The purpose of homework is to think about the concepts we have learned and apply them in new situations.  Some questions will require a written response (a sentence or two).  Some will require some computation.  You are expected to show all thoughts and work.

2.  Lab work

We will try to have as many meaningful labs as possible.  This also means we will have lab reports due that explain the lab and the results.  Be prepared to do some analyzing and critical thinking.  Specific information for each lab will follow.

3.  Quizzes

Quizzes will be announced and are designed to practice the concepts we are learning.  They will take 10 to 30 minutes.  Please prepare.

4.  Tests

Tests will be given at the end of each chapter.  They will take one class period.

5.  Exams

Exams are given at the end of each semester and are always comprehensive.

6.  Projects

At least one project per quarter will be assigned.  You will be given at least four weeks notice before it is due.  The majority of the work will be completed outside of the classroom.
