To the Parents of ________________________________,

I am very pleased to have your student in my Geometry class this semester.  I am looking forward to getting to know their unique personality and learning style.  Your student should have brought home some information for you to look over and sign.  It contained the classroom, behavior, and course expectations that will apply to your student.  Please bring any questions or concerns you have to my attention.

We will be covering most of the material in the book, and your student will receive assignment sheets for every Chapter.  Please be sure and ask to see this so you will know where we are at and what they should be working on each night.  I will also post the assignment sheets on the Unity website (www.unityrockets.com).  We will have homework every night except the day before a test.  Students are expected to keep up on their assignments and do their homework every day.  It would help if you could have an area at home where they can work on homework.

Students will usually be given some time in class to start on their homework and ask questions.  If your student has difficulties with the material, please encourage them to seek help immediately.  Mathematics is a subject that can snowball very quickly if concepts are missed along the way so it is important that they not fall behind.  I am available to assist your student before school and after school.

Due to the wonderful nature of Geometry and its many applications, the students will have at least one project to complete each quarter to enhance their learning and explore different aspects of the subject.  Students will be given at least four weeks notice before the project is due, but most of the work will take place outside of the classroom.  Projects will also be posted on the website as they are assigned.  You may want to periodically ask them about their current project.

I do not expect to have any discipline problems in class, but if they occur I will explain to your student their inappropriate behavior and try to resolve the problem with them.  If the problem continues, I may need to contact you for your help.  Please support me if I should have to contact you because it is important that your student follow the classroom expectations in order to ensure the best learning opportunity for themselves and others.

Grades will be mailed to you every midterm and quarter, however if you would like to inquire as to your child's grade or progress in the course, please feel free to contact me by any of the methods listed below.  Communication is essential.  I am looking forward to this school year and the privilege of teaching your child.

                                                                                                            Sincerely,
