To the Parents of
________________________________,
I am very pleased to
have your student in my Algebra I B class this semester. I am looking forward to getting to know their
unique personality and learning style.
Your student should have brought home some information for you to look
over and sign. It contained the
classroom, behavior, and course expectations that will apply to your
student. Please bring any questions or
concerns you have to my attention.
We will be covering the second
half of the Discovering Algebra book this year.
Topics will include; lines from data, systems of equations and
inequalities, exponents and exponential models, functions, transformations, and
quadratic models. Extensive use of the
TI-84 Plus graphing calculator will occur in the classroom activities. Homework will not require the use of this graphing calculator. However, if you feel the need to purchase a
graphing calculator for your child, it would be best to buy the same kind we
use in class.
Students are expected to
keep up on their assignments and do their homework everyday. I will make every attempt to post assignments
weekly on the Unity website (www.unityrockets.com)
so that you can better monitor your student.
It would help if you could have an area at home where they can work on
homework. Please be sure to ask your
student questions about their math progress.
Students will usually be
given some class time to start on their homework and ask questions. Some of the students may be able to complete
the assignment during this time. If your
student has difficulties with the material, please encourage them to seek help
immediately. Mathematics is a subject
that can snowball very quickly if concepts are missed along the way so it is
important that they not fall behind. I
am available to assist your student before school and after school.
I do not expect to have
any discipline problems in class, but if they occur I will explain to your
student their inappropriate behavior and try to resolve the problem with
them. If the problem continues, I may
need to contact you for your help.
Please support me if I should have to contact you because it is
important that your student follow the classroom expectations in order to
ensure the best learning opportunity for themselves and others.
Grades will be mailed to
you every midterm and quarter, however if you would like to inquire as to your
child's grade or progress in the course, please feel free to contact me by any
of the methods listed below.
Communication is essential. I am
looking forward to this school year and the privilege of teaching your child.
Sincerely,
Stephanie
