Our
Classroom Expectations: The Three “R”s
Routine
- We start class
right away, so be prepared!!! Be in your seat with materials out BEFORE
the bell rings. Please place bags under your table or chair.
- No talking during
PA announcements.
- No food or drink.
Water bottles must be kept in a bag or purse. Gum: if I see it or hear
it, you’ll have to toss it away.
- Raise your hand to
ask permission to leave your seat during instruction. During work time,
you may leave your seat without permission if you need to sharpen a
pencil or get a tissue. Please do this quickly and non-disruptively.
Responsibility
- All
student-handbook rules and policies apply, including the cell-phone
policy.
- Expect to remain in
class all hour. Hall passes will be VERY limited
(generally, bathroom emergencies only). You must have your student
handbook/planner to request a pass.
- Be on task and
productive. When work time is given, work on assigned math work only.
Calculators must be used for class activities only—no game playing, etc.
- Cheating is not
tolerated and results in a zero for all people involved.
Respect
- Show respect for
everyone in the classroom, including yourself. In particular, foul
language and put downs are NOT tolerated. And a substitute teacher, if
we have one, always deserves your best behavior.
- Show respect for
materials in the classroom and the classroom itself. Keep things clean
and neat! Push in your chairs, and place trash in the trash can at the
end of class.
- Do not talk while
someone else is addressing the class. It is polite to listen and to
face the speaker. During work time or group activities, keep voices
soft so as not to disrupt other groups.
- Sleeping/heads down
is not allowed.
Consequences
<>We are a
community of
learners. No one has the right to disrupt our learning environment.
Students
will be expected to correct their behavior when prompted by the
teacher. This
is an “informal” reminder.
For minor offenses:>
- A
formal verbal
warning will be given. If
the issue
still persists, a detention will be issued.
<><>
For more serious offenses (ex: back talk,
foul
language, etc.):>>
- Detention
may be
assigned immediately (no warning first).
- The
student may
be asked the leave the classroom if the problem persists or is
disruptive to
the learning environment.
Other situations:
- If a
student is
using a calculator inappropriately, I will confiscate the calculator
and assign
a detention.
- Students
who are
late to class (without an excused pass) will be marked tardy on the
computer. This
results in an office detention. Students who are chronically not in
their seats
and ready to go when class starts will earn a classroom detention.
- A
student who
needs a hall pass but does not have his/her planner will be assigned a
detention. Remember, students will rarely
be allowed to leave the classroom.
- If a
student’s
name is left by a substitute teacher, two detentions will be assigned.
