Our Classroom Expectations

  1. All student-handbook rules and policies apply, including the cell-phone policy. Be sure your cell phones/iPods/etc. are OFF and stowed away properly before you enter the room.
  2. We start class right away, so be prepared!!! Be in your seat with materials out BEFORE the bell rings. Please place bags/purses under your table or chair so they are out of the way; they may not be kept on the tabletops and may not hang on the back of your chair.
  3. Food, drink, candy, and gum are not allowed. Water is allowed, but bottles must be kept in a bag or purse and then taken out when you need a quick sip.
  4. Raise your hand to ask permission first if you need to leave your seat during the class hour.
  5. Raise your hand when you have a question or something to share.
  6. Expect to remain in class all hour. Hall passes will be VERY limited (generally, bathroom emergencies only). You must have your student handbook/planner to request a pass.
  7. Sleeping/heads down is not allowed.
  8. When work time is given, work on assigned math work only. You may ask permission to work on other subjects after your math work is done.
  9. Calculators must be used productively for on-task class activities only—otherwise, they will be confiscated.
  10. During group activities or work time, keep your voices low as you help one another.
  11. Show respect for everyone in the classroom, including yourself. In particular, foul language and put downs are not tolerated.
  12. Show respect for materials in the classroom and the classroom itself. Keep things clean and neat! Push in your chairs, and place trash in the trash can at the end of class.
  13. Cheating or helping someone cheat is not tolerated.

Consequences

  1. A classroom detention will be issued for minor offenses. If a verbal warning is issued first, the student should correct the behavior to avoid the detention. A serious offense may result in immediate dismissal to the office.  If a student fails to serve or is late to a classroom detention, Mr. Gateley will be notified and will issue office detentions.
  2. If behavior issues continue or if a student earns a second detention, parents will be contacted.
  3. Discipline for tardies and cell phones is handled by Mr. Gateley in the office.
  4. If a student’s name is left by a substitute, two detentions will be assigned. A substitute is a guest who deserves your absolute best behavior—no excuses!
  5. Cheating takes many forms: copying homework, letting someone copy your homework, giving answers to homework or a quiz/test over the phone, discussing answers to or content of a test with people who haven’t yet taken the test, looking at a neighbor’s test paper, letting someone look at your test paper during a test, etc. Cheating results in a detention, a parent conference, and loss of credit for all people involved. Most importantly, it harms your reputation and your self-confidence.
