Beta Sigma Psi Scholarship

This scholarship is a $1,000 award that will be given to a confirmed Lutheran freshman male beginning his college studies at UIUC.  Come to the SSO for a brochure and application, or contact Kirk Meyer at (618) 257-2474 to request a copy.

 

Kiwanis Club: VIC SHAUL SCHOLARSHIP
Deadline to return completed application to Lisa Micele:  March 28.
This is a one-time $400 scholarship awarded to one senior from Uni High.
Criteria includes:
        -  GPA 3.30 +
        - Financial Need!   (must list family income)
        -  Completed application
        -  Student has exhibited personal contributions to the school and  community
Interested students should submit completed application to the SSO by: Monday, March 28th.

Illinois Heartland Decorative Artist Scholarship

Deadline:   March 30, 2005

Applicants for the Illinois Heartland Decorative Artist Scholarship will be considered based on talent, desire, and need.  In addition to an application, 6-10 photos of artwork need to be submitted.  Check the SSO for an application.

 

Christie Foundation Health Care Scholarship
Deadline:  March 31, 2005
Applicant must be a senior and plan to attend college this fall -- in an approved health care curriculum.  Application requires three reference letters, official transcript, and an essay about your plans to pursue a health-career field. Drive Your Future:  The Mercedes-Benz USA Scholarship Program
Deadline:  March 31, 2005
A $2,000 scholarship will be awarded to a high school senior this year.

The Carle Development Foundation:  Center for Athletic Injury Research (C.A.I.R.)

Deadline:  April 1, 2005

The Center for Athletic Injury Research (C.A.I.R.) has a scholarship program for senior students interested in health careers and sports.  Fields to be considered include:  athletic training, nursing, pre-med, physical therapy, sports psychology, and other similar areas of interest.  The unrestricted awards will be in the amount is $1,000.  This is a one-time award, but students may apply in subsequent years even if they have previously received a CAIR scholarship. Up to 10 scholarships are awarded each year.  Scholarships are announced prior to June 30, 2005.  Transcript, letters of recommendation, resume, and an essay are required.  Go to the SSO Scholarship Binder for more information.

 

Wichita State University International Trade Essay Competition

Deadline:  April 4, 2005

In order to participate in this competition, applicants must write an essay on the theme “The Impact of Globalization On the US Economy.”  The winner receives $10,000 and the runner-up receives $5,000 over a 4-year period at a college or university as a business major.

 

Conclave Radio Industry Scholarship

Students seeking a career in any area of radio/broadcasting may benefit from this scholarship.  Applicants must submit an application along with an audio part (CD or Cassette recording of a predetermined script).  Also offered by this organization is the Conclave Music Industry Scholarship.   This is a full tuition scholarship to one business student.  The combined value of the three scholarships is over $65,000.

 

Champaign-Urbana Junior Woman's Club

Two different scholarship programs are now open to high school seniors:

- Madelyn E. Milham Memorial Scholarship ($500 - based on academic merit and financial need)

- General Scholarship ($500 - based on academic merit and financial need)

Champaign County Extension Education Foundation
Deadline:  April 15, 2005
The Champaign County Extension Education Foundation announces the availability of two $1000 scholarships fro a graduating high school senior.
Applications are in the SSO tower.   You  must be a resident of Champaign County to apply.
 

Holocaust Remembrance Project

This is a national essay contest that deals with the Holocaust for high school students.  There is also some other prizes awarded, such as a trip to the National Holocaust Museum in Washington DC.

Judy Barr Topinka’s: Excellence in Agriculture Scholarship

FISCA National Scholarship Program

Financial Service Centers of America (FiSCA), is a professional trade organization representing an expanding industry of financial services providers in local communities across the country. FiSCA was originally established in 1987 as the National Check Cashers Association (NaCCA), changing its name in 1999 to reflect the evolution of the business.
The FiSCA National Scholarship Program is available to benefit deserving college-bound high school seniors from families in areas served by its members.   The FiSCA National Scholarship Program awards cash grants of at least $2,000 to two students selected from each of five geographic regions across the nation. Criteria is based on academic achievement, financial need, leadership skills in school and the community, and an essay written expressly for the competition.  Funding for the national scholarship program is provided by voluntary contributions from FiSCA members, plus a select group of participating vendors such as Western Union Financial Services and Travelers Express.

Two scholarships of $1,000 each will be awarded for the 2005-06 school year.
The purpose of the scholarship is to support the academic endeavors of low and moderate income students.   Annual gross family income cannot exceed $48,300 in order to be eligible for the scholarship.  You must also have been a resident of Champaign County for at least three years prior to applying.  Busey Associates' and associates families are excluded.
Applications are in the SSO tower and must be accompanied with 1) transcript  2) three letters of recommendation  3) 500 word essay  4) proof of income qualification.

Navy ROTC Scholarship Program

This scholarship program offers a full tuition scholarship for years to the college or university of your choice.  The only things that are required for this are attending Naval science courses and drill once each week, as well as maintaining a 2.5 GPA and serving 4 years as a naval officer after graduation. 

 

National High School Oratorical Contest

In order to participate in this contest, all entrants must be high school students under the age of twenty.  Scholarships range from $1,500-$18,000 to be applied to any scholarship in the US.  Check the assigned topic of the oration on the website listed above.  Assigned topic also pertains to the government and the Constitution.

Veterans of Foreign Wars 9-12 Essay Contest

Essentially this is an essay contest for high school students about patriotism and similar topics which can be sent to their local VFW which can then be eligible for scholarships.

This is a program which recruits students to the NSA, and which pays for their tuition.  The requirements are good academic standings and coming to work for the NSA for a given period of time after graduation from college.

This is a very distinguished corporate scholarship that has a large value (10-20K), but requires a nomination.  Unfortunately, this is first come, first served, since only ONE nomination is permitted for a school of our size.  Also, some community contribution or service is expected for the nominee, as well as a decent sized application.

This is for children of Illinois electric workers/member planning on going to college.  This is essentially a corporate scholarship, so it would be best if someone had a parent in the abovementioned and could easily redeem it.

Freese Memorial Scholarship

This scholarship is open to children of farmers in any area of study.  All applicants must reside in Champaign, Ford, or Vermillion counties. Check in the SSO for an application. 

 

University of Illinois Secretariat Hansen Scholarship

This scholarship is offered to a high school senior pursuing a career in an office professional, secretarial, or business related field in the state on Illinois.

 

BBC America: Get Writing Competition

Champaign Urbana Optimist Club: "Optimist International Oratorical Contest"

The Champaign Urbana Optimist Club is sponsoring the annual Oratorical contest.  It will be held March 3, 2005 at 6pm in the lower level of St. Matthew Lutheran Church at 2200 South Philo Road in Urbana.  Applications must be submitted by February 24, 2005.  The 2005 topic is:  "My Hero Is......" A four to five minute speech must be given.  The contest is open to students under the age of 16 as of December 31, 2004.  There is no minimum age.  Application materials are in the SSO Scholarship Binder.

 

Guardian’s Girls Going Places Scholarship Program

4-H:  Legacy of Leadership Scholarship

The Legacy of Leadership Scholarship is merit-based, and available to 4-H members who are high school seniors, or in their last year of 4-H membership.   4-H is the largest out-of-school educational program for youth in the United States. 4-H seeks to assist youth in acquiring knowledge, forming attitudes, and developing life skills that will enable them to become caring, competent, and contributing members of society. Acacia Leadership Scholarship

This scholarship is designed to identify and reward outstanding high school seniors who have demonstrated their ability to excel in the field of academics, extracurricular school activities, and community involvement.  This scholarship is available to any male, graduating senior, from an accredited Iowa, Illinois, Minnesota, or Nebraska high school.  This scholarship is awarded to applicants who will attend Iowa State University, the University of Iowa, or the University of Nebraska.  Application is available in the SSO.

National Defense Transportation Association Scholastic Award
