Music Theory

Music Theory is a one semester course that exposes each students to the elements of music.  The class will introduce and reinforce elements of rhythm, melody and harmony.  Students will analyze and compose music.  The material for the class include handouts and lecture.  Students will complete a series of worksheets that will progressively move them through the elements of music.  Students will be introduced to the circle of 5ths, intervals, chord and chord function, rhythm, instrumentation, formal analysis and scoring.
Semester Course:
Music Theory is offered every year depending on interest and enrollment.  The length of the class is one semester.
Credit:
0.5 credit
Materials:
Handouts, Class Lecture, Student Notes, Worksheets & Staff Paper.
Activities:
Reading, worksheets, Scale spelling, chord spelling, harmonization, ear training, rhythmic dictation, melodic dictation, analysis, arranging & composition.
Grading:
This course follows the established Unity High School grading scale.  Click on the Grading page on the previous web page.
Finals:
This course follows the student attendance policy for finals.
 Recommendations: This course is designed for the experienced musician.  It will prepare the high school musician for college music theory.
