Unity High School Rocket Marching Band
"The Show" 2008 This year our show highlights the music of the "Beatles".  It was selected as a challenging yet reasonable goal for our new marching band.  The music of Lennon and McCartney provides us with a quality program for us to build a solid halftime show.  This page included in our web site to offer you the insight and creativity involved in our show design.
Pregame
The Unity Rocket Marching Band will begin to establish traditions that will long be a part of our program.  When the band enters <>the field prior to the player introductions they will line up on the goal line.  This company front will march to the 50 yard line breaking to our "U" logo with the percussion section making the diagonal stripe across the center.  The Star-Spangled Banner is then sung and school song played.  At the conclusion of our school song the band moves to make a "Rocket".  The Rocket will then "blast-off" with a drum roll concluded with a loud boom from the band.  The band will then move to make a tunnel and the drum line will lead the players out with a cadence to start player introductions. Very few high school bands have a pre-game presentation and it is a wonderful opportunity to highlight the school spirit and pride we have in our team and our school.

Halftime
Our show this year features the music from one group, "The Who".   The music of this show will be a more mature and demanding program than 2008.  You will probably recognize most of the music from the TV show series "CSI".
The Opener is set to the music of  "Who Are You?".  The initial statement is made from the pit and the band answers with the familiar melody of this intense selection.
The second selection is the production number.  Last year we stood still to perform this selection.  Since we are transitioning to a "competitive" format we need to move in every selection in the show.  We will be performing to the ballad-like "Behind Blue Eyes".  Keep an "eye", no pun intended, on the color guard during this selection.
The third selection is the drum solo set to the up tempo selection, "Happy Jack".  The is a less known "Who" song but it fits the feel and intensity of the show.  It has a 2 beat feel and uneven phrases.  Watch closely as the band navigates these changes with complex drill and quick transitions.
The Closer is performed to the classic protest song, "Baba O' Reilly".  This hard charging chart allows the band to finish with intensity and a well - known, "Who" Classic.

The Concept
The trademark of the Unity Rocket Marching Band will be characterized by creativity and energy.  The music is selected to provide student interest and the foundation for movement and color.  Using the music styles of jazz and rock will allow us to develope a unique presentation for each show while providing our home audience with performance appropriate for a home football game.  We will model our format after drum corps honing our performance to it's finest edge on our last performance.
