The Marching Band
Physical Education
Waiver

The Illinois State Board of Education allows any High School to excuse every student from Physical Education in the semester they are participating in Marching Band.

This will allow the student to schedule the required academic classes while maintaining band in their schedule.  Marching Band is an activity of physical activity and control.  Posture, marching style, equipment carraige, regulated step size, music performance and air control are the physical demands of marching band.   For this reason the ISBE allows a student participating in marching band to waiver P.E.  This waiver is available to the student only in the 1st semester of the school year.  The P.E. waiver applies to all students grades 9 through 12.
