Unity Jazz: High School Jazz Combo Junior High Jazz Combo |

At Unity we will have two jazz
combos this year. The Junior high jazz combo was started three
years ago and this year we will be the second year of our high school
jazz combo. The
jazz combo not only introduces the student to a unique style of music
but it also teaches students the skill of improvisation. Students
learn melodic charts and we apply scales and chord changes that
students will improvise to. During each rehearsal we work
on
articulation, scales, interpretation and improvisation. Each
ensemble will perform at different concerts and events throughout the
school year. The goal of our instrumental music department is to
establish a junior high and high school big band. This type of
ensemble
totals about 20 and has a very specific instrumentation.
